Name: Abbi Aitken (Captain)

Club: Aberdeenshire CC

How and why did you get involved in cricket?

Tried my hand at most sports when I was younger, and happened to have a natural talent at cricket. After being introduced to the sport at Primary School I was asked along to the junior coaching sessions at my home club, Montrose CC.

Any family connections to sport?

No members of my family played/watched cricket before I took up the sport. However my cousin, Lisa Aitken (24) is a professional squash player who competed in the Commonwealth Games in Delhi. Still considered relatively inexperienced within her profession, Lisa's highest World Ranking to date is an impressive #36. My father and uncle were both keen footballers, and my younger cousin Joe currently plays football for Edinburgh University 1st XI.

Your first ever sporting success? (doesn’t have to be cricket related!)

Difficult to pinpoint just one as I have played football and cricket competitively since the age of 11. However my proudest achievement to date was becoming the Captain of Scotland in 2011 at the age of 20.

First international / ‘big time’ call-up

I received my first cap for Scotland at the age of 14 - a little hazy as to who and where the we were playing, but I'll put that down to a combination of nerves and excitement!!

What is your biggest passion away from sport?

Socialising, events and live sport! Newcastle United supporter - and proud!
